On 11 January 1975
47255 while working 1S77 23:15 Kings Cross - Aberdeen was booked to stop at York at 02:45 along with 55007 on 1E40 19:20 Aberdeen - Kings Cross was due at York at 02:49. 1E40 pass through the centre road heading south with 47255 passed a red signal and took a swipe with the rear vehicle ripping the BG on the back of 1E40. Vehicles being reported of been removed by midday the flowing day. 47255 was repaired at Crewe works where a new No. 1 Cab was fitted.
