 1988 
 
A brief respite from the continual rundown occurred in this year with the transfers to cover the Sunday Shenfield - Liverpool Street drags which ran from October 1988 to March 1989, although with sectorisation the loss of the 'parcels' fleet to Bristol saw a further reduction the the fleet.
 
 January 
 
The New Year saw a already depleted fleet was reduced further.
25 th 47005 / 47008 / 47016 were transferred to Crewe and 47054 / 47374 to Immingham.
 
 February 
 
Nothing to report.
 
 March 
 
26 th 47256 xo B4 arrived from Cardiff, and 47346 xos Rf1 from Thornaby.
The ETH fleet was reduced by one more with the loss of 47573 to Old Oak Common.

Also during the month:
Released from Crewe Works following overhaul was 47580 (8I), with large logo livery and yellow marker light panels.
Black marker light panels painted: 47096 / 47100.
Sparrow emblems: 47100.
 
 April 
 
Locomotives now started to be fitted with cab to shore NRN radio telephones, and Stratford's first four were 47116, 47328, 47572 and 47579. 16th
Transferred in were 47366 xos Rf1 from Crewe, and 47522 xei LNER, 47523 xei B4 from Gateshead.

18th Two more ETH machines were transferred in in preparation for the Shenfield - Liverpool Street drags which would be needed while Liverpool Street was rebuilt.
Transferred in were 47435 xei B4, and 47455 xe LL from Crewe

Radio telephone fitted: 47114.

47365 xos Rf1 was transferred in from Crewe.

NSE2 livery: 47579. The first in the revised NSE livery

18th
With the Shenfield - Liverpool Street drags now underway more ETH locos were transferred in along with another 47/3.
Arriving were: 47325 xos Rf1 from Crewe, 47430 xe IC1Sc from Inverness, 47452 xe LL from Crewe, 47458 xe LL from Eastfield, 47462 xe B4 from Inverness, and 47465 / 47482 both xe LL from Eastfield.
47009 / 47101 / 47124 / 47365 transferred to Crewe

29th
47320 xos Rf1 arrived from Cardiff, along with two more ETH machines, 47433 xi LL from Tinsley and 47598 xe B4 from Laira.
Departing was 47256 to Tinsley
On arrival 47433 was found to have its ETH isolated and a 75mph speed restriction imposed.
47433 Sadly it failed with a brake problem on its second turn and didn't work another Shenfield - Liverpool Street drag!

Also during the month:
Radio telephone fitted: 47291 / 47574 / 47581.
Black marker light panels painted: 47346.
ETH restored / max speed restored: 47433
 
 November 
 
26th
47572 / 47574 / 47580/ 47585 were transferred to Bristol, 47320 to Cardiff.

Also during the month:
Released from overhaul at Stratford Works was 47598 (7L) NSE2, black marker light panel on un-rebuilt number 1 end.
Stratford sparrow emblems: 47462 (replacing the Inverness stag).
 
 December 
 
Released from overhaul at Stratford Works was 47114 (7L), boiler removed, Rf3a livery and 47576 (8L) NSE2 livery.
Black marker light panels and sparrow emblems; 47123.
Scotrail wording removed: 47430
